Our goal is to create a better-balanced state so your problems are addressed ahead of time and you have the best chances of getting pregnant. Oftentimes, with our adjustments and recommendations, many of our patients will get pregnant naturally.

How Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can help with infertility

Infertility occurs due to disrupted vital balance and blockages in the Qi energy and blood circulation flow. Traditional Chinese Medicine is shown to increase the number of good quality eggs, optimise the uterine environment and reduce stress and anxiety levels.

TCM is not just for females, we encourage the man to also attend treatment and consider herbal medicine that can help vastly improve sperm quality and quantity.

When the free flow of energy is blocked, it can cause deficiency, stagnancy or heat syndrome:

• Deficiency syndrome is blocking and disrupting the sexual and reproductive function both in men and women
• The stagnancy syndrome disables the free flow of energy and Blood and restricts it from circulation to the tissues in the reproductive organs
• The heat syndrome is connected to inflammation processes that have an impact on semen quality and gynaecological infections

All three syndromes can be treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine, concretely with acupuncture and herbs.

Fertility acupuncture works in three main ways to help you conceive:

Stimulating blood flow to improve ovaries function

Acupuncture can promote the release of key hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormones, whilst affecting oestrogen and progesterone levels. This can help improve blood flow to the ovaries for follicle development and also to the uterus, improving the thickness of the endometrial lining for embryo implantation.

How we can help

During your acupuncture treatment, we will be focusing on a variety of points in an effort to enhance fertility or blood flow to certain organs.

For example, pressure points on the head promote relaxation, while points around the stomach help open up the supply of fresh blood to the ovaries. Other points around the lower legs are used to promote blood flow to the reproductive organs, which start at the feet.

All of this is done in a gentle, consultative manner so you can better understand what is happening.

Relieving stress

Acupuncture works by stimulating nerve endings deep below the surface of the skin, which helps your body release endorphins. This, in turn, helps to lower anxiety, depression and stress levels, which can help you feel relaxed and help you cope with the stress of infertility and fertility treatment.  

IVF & fertility acupuncture

Acupuncture can promote relaxation and relieve stress, both of which can be beneficial when going through treatments like IVF. It is typically performed during the lead-up to an IVF cycle and immediately before and after embryo transfer, at times when your body will benefit the most from being fully relaxed.  

What’s more, high levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) have been shown to increase the risk of miscarriage in women once they become pregnant.

Did you know? Acupuncture can be helpful whilst pregnant to help alleviate morning sickness, fatigue, heartburn, nausea, and anxiety.

Pregnancy massages

Our pregnancy massages are also tailored to relieve any pain and niggles you may be feeling. (Please note, if pregnant, we will never do acupuncture around your abdomen and only baby oil can be used on the skin during massages).

Counteracting the effects of PCOS

By reducing sympathetic nerve activity and balancing hormone levels, acupuncture may help to reduce the number of ovarian cysts, stimulate ovulation, enhance blastocyst implantation and regulate the menstrual cycle in women with PCOS.
